Our
adaptive coordinator, Maureen McKinnion-Tucker first came to
Piers Park to attend a disabled sailing clinic conducted by
US SAILING's Betsy Alison. Since then in 1999, she has now
made the US
Disabled Sailing Team 5 times and is the first
woman to do so.
Her
newest honor is her accomplishment with teammate and 2005 US
Rolex Yachtsman of the year, Nick Scandone - winning the United
States Sailing Trials. Her team's first place finish puts her
and
Nick as the SKUD18 representatives for the U.S.A. at the 2008
Beijing Summer Paralympic
Games. The event will be held in
the sailing venue of Qingdao, China 300 miles southeast of
Beijing on the Yellow Sea.
Should
she and Nick (who has ALS) medal at the games, she will be
the first woman in the world to do so in her sport. For more
details
or to
sign up for her email updates visit www.SailChallengeInspire.org.
Allow
Maureen's experience in disabled sailing work for you at Piers
Park in the adaptive sailing program and Learn to Sail program
in one of the most equalizing sports we know of!
