Instructor Trainee Program

For students who have participated in the PPSC youth sailing program and are ready for an additional challenge, we offer the Instructor Trainee Program (IT Program). During their time as an IT, students not only learn sailing skills but they build leadership skills and self-esteem while giving back to the community. Beyond the goal of instilling in the students these important skills, the IT program aims to enrich the lives of those who engage in it. PPSC offers a $500 stipend to ITs who successfully complete the program.

ITs learn the basic groundwork for becoming an instructor. All the advanced skills that are needed to be a successful instructor are taught, including advanced navigation, solo sailing, and teaching methods. ITs also assist instructors on the boats and ashore during program hours, working directly with students to practice the skills they are learning.

Students must be at least 14 years of age.
